Objectives

The Donaghadee Historical Society was founded in 2001 by a number of historically- minded people in the town of Donaghadee, Co.Down, N.Ireland.

The Donaghadee Historical Society has as its objectives the promotion and encouragement of the study of history, folklore and antiquities in relation to local and national history.

The Society meets in the town on the fourth Monday of each month September-November and January-April. At these meetings talks are given on a number of historical subjects. At least two of the meetings every year will hopefully have a considerable amount of Donaghadee-related matter. Outings are also organised to historical sites and institutions.

Membership currently costs £1 per year. This is payable at any of our meetings. Overseas membership for members residing outside Northern Ireland is free. Application for membership may be made at meetings or by using the form on this website.

Logo

To the left is Rennie's Arch - the logo of the Donaghadee Historical Society. When John Rennie designed the current harbour he incorporated a triumphal arch as the entrance to the South Pier. This was to be approx 50 feet high. It was never built but the design was adopted as the logo for the Society.
