Welcome

3rd September

The 2010/11 season of the Society will commence on Monday 27th September when Billy Hamilton will give a talk on the "Streets of Donaghadee"

Although the layout of the centre of Donaghadee has not changed in over 300 years the street names and buildings have evolved. Where were Murder Lane, Bullock Row, Mount Street and Sandy Row and where is Moat Entry? Why is Shore Street Church not in Shore Street? Where were the Entente Café, the Tea and Cake Shop, the Alpha, the Capri etc etc.? How new are New Street and New Road? These questions will be answered in the opening talk of the 2010/2111 season.

As usual this will be held in the Sailing Club, Shore Street (formerly Sandy Row!) at 7.45 pm.

We are working on additions to the website which has now been viewed over 8,000 times and we are getting communications from all over the world concerning the town.

The picture above is of pupils at Donaghadee Primary school probably in the 1950s. the teacher at the rear left is Mr. Williamson. Can anyone else add any other names? (I think Edward Jenkins is instantly recognisable in the front row!)

We are grateful to Alistair Johnston of Donaghadee Rotary Club who managed to find a photograph of the SS Donaghadee which has been added to the article within the Donaghadee section.
